Tearing apart "new" engine..
Ill be getting a factory mazda reman engine with approximately 25k miles on it. I want to tear it apart to do a streetport before swapping it into my car. Obviosly I will measure to make sure everything is within spec, but everything should be reusable, and I shouldnt have to buy any new parts (beside coolant seals) should I? Just wanted to make sure.
Almost the exact same question I have! Factory Reman with 10,000 miles, but it has been sitting for about 12 months. All fluids have been drained also. Will a gasket set or more be necessary or just coolant seals?
I'm of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school of thought. Run it as-is.
That said, you're looking at a gasket kit minimum. You'd have to re-glue the apex seal corner piece back on to reuse them, otherwise installing the apex seal springs would be a CHORE. Or, buy new apex seals - more money.
I just don't see you getting the value from street porting it that you're gonna end up sinking parts and money into the project, not to mention potential problems if you've never built a motor before.
