Street ported N/A, Racing beat headers... NOW I NEED FPR?!?!!?

hey guys... I know this sounds weird but i just got my tranny and engine rebuild and i got a street port with a racing beat header and my old *** catco catalytic converter. ANyways... my car got really fuel hungry after only driving it a couple of miles. The guy who rebuild it is a very reliable rotary technician so he recommened me to get a Fuel pressure regulator and run it from the stock fuel pump. he will do all the install for free but im not sure i never heard of this before at least not from the forum. any ideas? maybe my stock one crapped out cuz i used premix for a year... lol

Sounds like he's taking wild guesses? Premix doesn't damage FPRs, or we'd have heard a lot about it from various people who have been running premix for ages.

hehe that was my wild guess... he clipeed the fuel return line to check if the engine flodded like its ssuppose to if the fuel pressure regualor was not working properly but it didnt thats why he thought it might be the fuel pressure regulator... i never heard of them being installed in N/a cars Not aftermarket oens at least.. have u? I mean **** with a mild street port and headers... i dont think is that much air ... for teh injectors to pump more gas... teh car runs liek **** but i get 22 mpg

Fuel pressure regulator... yeah... theres on in n/a cars. Theres one in any fuel injected car actually...

Mild streetport and headers won't constitute revamping the fuel system IMO.

BTW: If your car is getting 22mpg, I would venture to say its NOT running that bad... especailly if its streetported getting 22mpg... consider yourself flucky.

I just rereard your original post...

1) Premix oil mixes fine with gaseonline. It won't affect teh fuel pump or the Fuel pressure regulator.
2) How do you know your engine got fuel hungry? It is producing more power with the streetport and header, and hence is using more gas... That SHOULD be expected.
3) How many miles do you have on your rebuild? Almost all rotary rebuilds have shitty compression until they are worn in. Shitty compression is going to make the car very hard to start sometimes, this is going to give you the impression the car is flooded, even if its not. Your rotary mechaninc SHOULD have told you that though.
4) Odds of the stock fuel pressure regulator crapping out are slim... VERY slim.
5) It sounds like your mechanic just made a wild guess to "fix" the "too much fuel" problem. If he was any sort of decent mechanic, he'd be out there with pressure gauges checking the exact fuel pressure, not just disconnecting **** to see if there is pressure there or not.

I say get a copy of the FSM and ditch your mechanic.

thanx kenteth

well my problem is very simple... i have 500 miles on the rebuild... and i have hesitation everywhere from 1500 rpms up. even killing the gas pedal still creates hesitation AND ALOT OF IT, the car shakes wildy and everything.... the first 100 miles though i didnt experience this...i started expereincing it when I changed gas. I mean it has to be something with the fuel system he swaped ecu's and everything else on the car is been replaced in the past 4 months or so.

Why did he swap ECU's? They aren't all plug-n-play either.

You haven't stomped on the gas or pushed past 3000rpm during that first 100 miles did you? If you did then there's the possibility that you damaged an apex seal. Do yourself a favor do a compression check on the rotors YOURSELF, not the mechanic.

If you're getting 22mpg then you're not having a too much fuel problem, 22 mpg is really good regardless of the mods you have.
