Get the Rev II Race system from racing beat. Its a straight through system and makes the car sound awesome. If you don't, get thick piping. And at least a good thick header if you don't go the Racing Beat system.

I heard a single TBE straight pipe on a turbo 2. Sounds pretty nice.

This. If this is n/a don't do it. Put some kind of mufflers in the system. Do a search exhaust has been talked about a lot. To get you started here is a similar thread from a couple months back.

A turbo muffles the exhaust a ton compared to N/A. N/As are ear piercing loud.

You aren't going to notice any gains going with a straight pipe that would warrant the deafening sound you'd experience.

It's loud. Really freaking loud. And I'm not old-man-ing ya, it's pure, obnoxious, deafening noise. Get a header and a nice exhaust system like the one mentioned. If you want gains, go with a single exhaust system to save weight.

Or, for the most gains on an NA without rebuilding and porting: run an uncollected header with two pipes side by side all the way back and collect them as close to the bumper as possible, add a muffler and call it a day.

EDIT: For the MOST gains, go turbo.

Its very loud, incredibly loud, I did gain some decent power from it but the sound is not worth it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WAr...ature=youtu.be skip to :14 to skip my friend yelling and you will see how loud it is inside a quiet car with windows up.

I had a gsl-se that didn't have a header but was 2.5" piping that ran through a glass pack. It was so obnoxious! If you're wanting a straight through system I agree with the above posts, if costs allow racing beat systems sound fantastic and arehigh quality. I have the revII on my T2. Otherwise, try and get decent mufflers. Flowmaster or something would probably give you a deep tone. Good luck.... and if you're wanting deafening exhaust straight all the way... but it'll get annoying. .. especially if you're tinkering with 7's into your late 30's like me lol.

I managed to find a custom straight pipe set up to replace the stock single to dual output system, with mufflers on both ends, and let me just tell you this; it's the single best mod for these cars, bar none. At least in an NA anyway, since I drive an '88 convertible.

Sound is great, not too loud, but distinctive. The throttle response is FAR better than before. It's obviously quicker than before as well, and I maintain power in 5th gear now, at lower speeds (around 55+) which it couldn't do so well before.

I got lucky and found mine on Craigslist, it was custom done, practically brand new and came with the rubber mounts. Only cost $180.

So my best advice is to have it custom made, or find one on craigslist. If you know anyone who does welding, I'm sure it'd be a piece of cake to just make a custom one by copying the old one (but without the cat).

I also have a custom single pipe set-up with a magnaflow cat if you're interested.

do you have stock exhaust now? if so, remove the catback, and the main cat, leaving only the first precat attached

( on a s4 n/a system goes manifold, 1st precat, 2nd precat, main cat, y pipe, mufflers.)

now go drive the car around for a few blocks this is how loud it will be with a straight pipe.

be warned you may be poping fire ***** under the car, so I woldnt recommend driving like this for too long

you may be able to just unbolt the ehxuast and then offset it to one side and reuse 1 bolt so that u don't even have to remove it.

What happens if I remove the first 2 precats. Leave the main cat. And then leave my hks catback on. Will it shoot flames? Will I have enough back pressure to activate my 5th and 6th ports? Will it be louder? Do the pre cats really do anything?

I was thinking of doing it from the Back of the Engine to the back of my car and just do it that way then weld a 4" muffler on the end on the pipe

as I say in every thread discussing straight pipes...

Do you drive a chainsaw?

If the answer is no, then do you want to drive a chainsaw?

If the answer is still no, then don't put in straight pipes, unless you want to drive a giant chainsaw!

or paint the car neon pink, the effect will be the same.

if you think it will somehow make the power change noticeably then you would be wrong. all you would be doing is making noise for attention.
