stock temp gauge

I got a s4 tii and i went with a haltech e6k a while ago. since money has been tight i havent been able too buy a temp gauge. Is there a way to make the stock temp gauge work? I tried to hook it up directly from the sending unit to the gauge but it seems like somewhere in the cluster needs power?

well yes the cluster needs power, but the signal is direct from the sender to the gauge. if the gauges don't have power only the speedo will work

Well thats the thing, the fuel gauge works. Does the temp use a different power source?

Double check the wire for the temp gauge then. You just installed a haltech... where did you put the water temp sensor? Did you re-tap the stock location or put it right next to it?

The previous owner of my car installed the temp sensor in a way that would work for the haltech, but JAM the t-stat. The car would take 15-20 minutes for the gauge to read temperature. Maybe this is your scenario? I thought my gauge was bad, turns out it was something else.

the water temperature gauge sender is a separate one-wire sensor on the rear iron. the one on the water pump housing goes to the stock ECU and uses a fuel injector style connector. since the water temperature gauge wire goes on the factory fuel injection (emissions) harness, you probably inadvertently cut or otherwise eliminated its wire when you installed the haltech.

Don't buy anything from mrrx7man! I sent my payment for a fd intake manifold, in fact I gave an extra $5 more than what was agreed on. I waited paitentley, he claimed to be busy and took forever. I eventually just wanted my money back, and he promised to give me my money back if he did not ship out the part.

He does not reply to my messages anymore. This was all before July 4th. But as you can see he is still on the forum's selling parts, after july 4th, and doesnt reply to my messsages.

Like ARGHX said above, when you installed you aftermarket fuel managment you disconnected the two Orange in color plugs that are a part of the EM harness that WAS on the engine. When you did that you broke the circuit b/t the water temp sensor and the gauge.

So you need to tell us what you did to the harness that was on the engine. Did you remove all of it? or part of it? It's just a matter of reconnecting the circuit b/t the water temp sensor and the gauge. Can't help you unless the above is answered.

The ORANGE in color plugs are shown in the attached jpg and would have been in the foot well of the passengers side.

Look at ARGHX's post above and then go look at the orange in color plugs for a Yellow/Black wire in the half of the plug that is part of the front harness. That wire goes to the gauges. Then, if you still have the EM harness in the car, go look at the ORANGE in color half of the plugs and look for a Yellow/White wire. That comes from the sensor in the engine. Connect the two together and the gauge should work.

Make sure you don't connect a BLACK/Yellow wire to the yellow/white. It's a YELLOW/black wire that your looking for.
