Stock BOV on '88 TII?
So, I hear with a little bit of work, you can get the stock BOV to make noise. But a search *for some reason* rendered EVERY post in this forum...so that doesn't help me.
My guess is you would need to have a sort of air regulator, so that it doesn't just leak too much air out, causing a vacuum leak...but I'm really not sure. Anybody have a write up/anything that would help to set it up, or would it just be better to get an aftermarket BOV?
PS, whats' the difference in the stock one and the expensive one? Does it make a different sound/hook up different/anything?

There's a trick that the DSM guys do with their stock denso BOVs that involves smashing the top with a hammer to make it not open as easy, which lets them run it vent to the atmosphere. But half the time they wreck the valve.
If you're really looking to get the noise, and not have a half-*** way of doing it, then you need to get an aftermarket valve.

But now I know I'll need an aftermarket one, are there any write ups on installing those, and whats the difference in a cheaper one vs an expensive one? Recommendations?

I guess I just don't understand that. I'm not sure what a one way valve does *darn google didn't help me* and where you would put that. I know the stockers leak into the atmosphere, in order to not blow the turbo, if I'm not mistaken. How would you do that?

A one way valve is a valve that does exactly what it says, only lets air move one way. In theory the stock valve is a one way valve. The problem here is that for the valve to operate normally you would need to be able to let air go out of it, you'd have to put the extra one way valve in such a way that the air that is leaking past the stock valve will still escape, and thus still have a leak. So one way valves won't work either.
Long story short: Don't vent the stock valve to the atmosphere. It's not going to make a noise and it will cause you nothing but problems.
Solution: HKS, APEXi, and I'm sure other companies make kits for installing their BOVs onto stock cars. These are available for purchase from many places online.

How are BOV different? Say GReddy and *whatever another brand is* are hooked up to exact similar cars. How would one be louder if the same amount of air is going in from the turbo? Maybe it's the way they are created, just trying to make sure, so I can get the best one possible when I have the money

Put a cold air intake on the car that comes out somewhere near ground level. You will get a nice sound and it will be pretty loud. More of a smooth hiss though. If you want PSSSSHHHHHHSHSHSHTHSHSHSHFSDHFS! then get an aftermarket BOV

I know that you can get a name brand BOV, mount, and charge pipe for relatively cheap on ebay if you look for ones for the SR20DET, since there arent too many on there for 7's. The tube is the right size, you may just need to cut the length down w little, and the flange is already welded on. I got a used Blitz BOV and charge pipe that way

This is the first one I noticed...not sure if that's the same one you're speaking of, though.
