Stock Boost Gauge

Just curious, what does the stock boost gauge read in pounds? +45 means nothing to me. Thanks

..but to ease your curiosity, I believe it's mmHg.. milimeters of mercury.

but they're right, it's pretty worthless.

i know its mmHg, but what I was asking was how does that convert to pounds...i.e. how many psi is 40 mmhg?

It's actually x10 mmHg, so +40 is 400mmHg which is 7.7psi, and +45 is 450mmHg which is 8.7psi.

Does anyone remembering buying this car when it was new? I'm just curious if the gauge was semi-accurate then. I can't believe mazda installed such a POS gauge knowing that it was useless.

Like all factory boost gauges, it was installed mainly for marketing reasons, to give the car a sporty look and feel. It’s not so much that the gauge reads wrong, it’s that the scale is far too small to accurately read it, the divisions are all over the place, and it doesn’t even read right down to zero absolute pressure (-200mmHg is about 10.8psi absolute). If you can’t get an accurate reading off the gauge with a quick glance (i.e. to the nearest psi), it’s useless.
