Stock air box cutting

Ok look at the attached picture, i want to cut out the dotted line area. Is this going to give me better air flow or would it have some negative side effects?

just buy an adapter and filter off of ebay it cost me 35 dollars including shipping for the adapter and filter as a set and it works great. but if you want to do this it would possibly get better flow but not much more since this is the part of the filter that is basicaly smushed under the hood and it would bring in more hot air from the engine than a stock box would since the stock box is "sealed" from the hot air.

Why wreck the airbox?

Just take the top cover off and duct tape the filter onto the lower piece all around the edges. That way, you have maximum flow and reversibility.

ya that would be better with the head light out but take go speed go's advice and take off the cover and duct tape it or there was another post about glueing it down a while back you could try that too, but if you glue you can't go back so you'd have to buy an aftermarket filter later any way

The stock snorkel is not that bad if you get the hood prop rod out of the way.
Especially since it draws from a cool air area.

u do know that ur going to only get as much air flowing through there as the smallest area so it doesn't matter how big of a whole u have there as long as the mass air sencer is the same size it's not going to make that big of a difference if anything put a fan on the part thatu are going to cut out it will act like ram air in a way and ur air will be pushed through instead of sucked through

no it wont. the fan would never blow as fast as the engine is sucking, and it would only cause interference.

i drilled holes into my 86's box, you could feel a little bit of a difference, im going to get a filter adaptor with the mariah cold air box, but fornow im livin 10,000 dollar dreams on 100$ budget...........cutting out the airbox makes the intake sound badass around 3k of so too...........
