Talking Still an RX Honeymoon, or do I boost around 550RPM?

I just got this 90,vert; MAN I like it a lot. I could swear I get a little oomph around 5500 in every gear; maybe I'm just star-eyed. :-) First sports car I ever owned (39 years young), and, ironically, the first sports car that really got my attention as a kid; never cared for th muscle-car thing.

Would anybody give me a brief explanation or point me to the instructions for posting pictures in a thread and associating a picture with my signature (I guess thats what you guys are doing)?

Thanks to all for posting really helpful stuff.
Bob

that "oomph" you feel is probably the VDI which kicks in around 5800 i think.

just do a search for VDI and you should find more info on it than you ever wanted to know.

JazzRox,

Hey welcome to the forum. Yep also own a vert - 89 white/blue.

The vert is VERY well planted on the roada. It's amazing how balanced it is. You can't brake out the back end in the corners like most other cars.

Keep in mind the rx-7s are uncomprimising sports cars - so it's all about handling & acceleration The rustangs are good for 0-60 in a straightline, but they don't fair well in the corners and that's where the rx7 shine.

The vert has one of the best rides of any rx7 I've driven too. Soft but responsive. Roadster feel, sports car handling, great for the corners. The 5speed/OEM clutch is one of the best I've driven.

Besides a great car with supercar performance, the rx-7s have an international following from aftermarket manufacturers, tuners, and enthusiest. That gives you a wide selection of performance upgrades, bodykits, accessories, OEM & aftermarket parts, etc..

For my vert I've picked up the snap on boot, hardtop bag (storing in the trunk), downpipe, performance catalytic converter, and HKS exhaust. Will probably do intake, cold air box, and headlight airscoop a few months down the road

pictures are limited to 100K in size if you want to post them here directly. I own a websight, so I just embedd a link on this website which makes them pop up in these threads. No size or space limits that way.

vaughnc,
Yah, its all that. From what I've read, dumpling exhaust and scooping in more air are the best ways to improve the low end a bit. What did you spend on the exhaust mods, and what do you expect to spend on the intake mods you mentioned?

Mariah's intake setup is ~$170 or $120 depending if you buy their OEM headlight cover or ship them your own. (www.mariahmotorsports.com). Comes with a OEM LOOKING fiberglass cold air box with rubber seals, K&N plus pipping adapters, and the stamped headlight scoop. The scoop is reinforced before stamping, so it does NOT warp your headlight at all.

I lucked out on the exhaust, and got it cheap as it was used (but not much). I think new price for the HKS is like $250 or $300, downpipe ~$125, not sure on the performance cat. The cat HAS!!! to be rated for a rotary though.
