I think people need to follow their own path. And you can make people listen if they don't want to.

Some will say standalone (I'm one of those). Others, like the best rotary shop that I deal with, has a rotary expert with years of racing experience who hates electronics and just likes extra injectors.

Whatever works.

But, people need to make informated decisions. Saying an EMS like the Haltech is problematic is just misinformed. Most problems with standalone EFI is either faulty installation or lack of/bad tuning.

I have personally worked with 3 standalone turbo RX-7's, 2 Haltech's and 1 Wolf. They where all installed by people who are very meticulous about their work, and thus run flawlessly (or at least have no EMS related problems... )

Your absolutley right thats why I wanted to stay out of this argument! They are both opinions and everyone has one, usually people are biased towards what they have because a) it works b) they are familiar with it. I will never dog on standalones because I want one bad but a)can't afford one right now b) don't know how to install them and no one around here does that for about 4 hour drive c) no on to tune it except someone 4 hours away. A standalone is the true fix to the fuel timming issues of more power but an safc / computer chip / piggy back is also a good fix as well, maybe not the choice for someone that is very maticulate about tuning / modifying but to the average person this is a fine way to obtain some higher hp numbers reliably!

porting just isn't an option right now.

I've got two good s5 TII cores that I can use for that project, but this s4 TII motor has 115PSI compression and I don't see why I can't use it for now.

I DID NOT want my poor thread to turn into an argument, I just wanted some (hopefully cheap) solutions to get me some more power reliably.

I don't think that a boost controller will affect creep much at all, since above 10PSI the wastegate would still be open, so it wouldnt' creep any more than if there wasn't a controller on there at all, right?

That's correct, it'll creep to about the same level you've got now, but you might see a spike of about 12-13 or so, not too bad. Go with a hybrid and an s-afc and enough fuel, that'll get you a cheap fast car, you can even keep the TMIC if you keep the boost down and tune properly, but if you want faster go with a fmic. You should see my timeslip with my car running the hybrid, you'd be a bit impressed.

I saw plenty of creep with my wastegate not ported the hole is simply not big enough to flow enough exhaust gases out of the wastegate hole. I was getting 13 to 14 psi of boost with an ebc set at 10psi. This was not a spike but creep every time I took it up into the gears. Do what you want to do but I would port if I where you. Also if you are getting a hybrid from bnr they do the wastegate porting already.
