All true....

Red is the switched power wire (turns on with the car).
Yellow is the constant power wire (always hot).
Black is ground (duh!)

If the red wire isn't connected properly, the cd player will act all funny or not do anything at all, depends on model.

If the yellow wire isn't connected properly, the cd player will be fine with the car turned on, but will loose its memory everytime the car is turned off.

If the black wire isn't connected properly, the cd player will either: act funny (similar to no red wire); have ALOT of static and interferrence from the engine and not get good reception; not work at all

Any other questions?

WHOOOPS>>>> that would be worng.

As posted above aftermarket radio wires are:
Red is the switched power wire (turns on with the car).
Yellow is the constant power wire (always hot).
Black is ground
and blue is power antenna, and/or power amp turn on.

You will probably want to search the 2nd gen section and audio section, as I have posted quite a few times what the colors are and what to wire them to in both places. The search function is found in the upper right hand corner of the page, and as I recall simply putting in "radio wires" for the search works just fine

the 10mm bolt under the center consol side access panels (the panel directly to the right of your knee as you are sitting in the drivers seat).

Yup, anyplace by that panel or else you can run the wire to the right (passenger side) and it will "magically" appear in the passenger footwell, allowing you to ground it anyplace on the firewall.

Definitely get the 2 power wires and the amp turn on apart! I am suprised that you haven't blown a fuse or the head unit with power feeding back into the amp turn on/power antennae lead.
