stereo electrical problem.....
stereo electrical problem.....
brand new stereo Pioneer 2900mp
i installed it using the harness that the previous owner had left in the glove box.... it turned on played music, but the next day after 10 mins or so...(i think i got on it to pass a car up) it turned off and didnt turn back on... i thought i might have blown a fuse..later, when i got back it my car, it turned back on... played for about 15 -20 mins, then stopped.... i noticed it was kinda hott.... it thought it might have overheated..... same thing had been going on, it will just stop playing at its own discretion....haha.. anyways, today it stopped again, i went to class and when i came back, it didnt turn back on? wtf? I think i might be the wiring as the previous deck had similar symptons, any suggestions on what to check? i searched and got nothing... thanks in advance...

you either have a blown speaker or speakers, speaker wire shorted to ground or a bad factory amplifier either way its the same problem your pioneer deck is seeing a dead short and is protecting itself. this is very typical when installing a new deck into an older vehicle especially a pioneer they are very finiky about whats on the other end of thier output . belive it or not its a good thing that it does this . you must locate the source of the "short" and correct it

Chances are if you are running a modern high power radio, you are putting in more than 15 watts and will need to bypass the factory amps.
Either that or you have either a blown speaker or a speaker short to the body of the car.

well if you ran the stereo with a speaker short, or there are amps that are not bypassed (such as the front speaker amp built into the passengers speaker housing- or amped rear speakers) then you will over heat and eventually burn out the output section of the aftermarket stereo.
And how do you know you have a base model? Many people confuse the Base model with the Luxury coupe (GX) or with the SE, because all three came with 4 lug wheels. All the Luxury coupes had upgraded stereos with amps.

I can't tell you the number of cars that I have found in the 20+ years of working on FCs, that just have aftermarket speaker wires stuffed under the running boards, and pinched into the carpeting and metal instead of running the wires in the factory wire channels (where there is almost 0 chance of pinching a wire and picking up stray car electronics noise) or under the seats with no protection, pinched again between the seats mounts or center consol or rear storage bins.
Running new wires should be the absolute last thing you do, unless you are willing to take the majority of the interior out and run the wires properly with the factory looms. Something that quite a few "certified" techs don't even do.
i agree, the only time i ever ran new wires is when there was only one speaker or installing an aftermarket amp, and even then i usually connect front to rear and only run maybe three feet of wire to rears

If your putting a new system in your car why the hell would you want to still use the same 5cent a foot wire that is 20 years old anyway. The amps are worthless and should be ******* yanked out anyway unless you are looking for quick install.
i actually dont have a base model, but i assumed that only like the turbo II's and gtus had amps i have the sport edition(or so i think) its an 87.... drives nice i guess.... so what are you suggesting i do? run a short wire bypassing the amp? as opposed to running new wires?
