Stereo cutting out... no56k

The deal is: my stereo sounds like it shorts out at high volumes. I bought new speakers and they sound like poo. I pulled out the head unit (keep in mind I didn't do the wiring) and I found a weird little box attached to the stock harness. Does anyone know what this is and if it could be causing the issue?

so what else could cause it cutting out? Could it be shorting it out? Should I just redo all the wiring? Oh, and when the stereo cuts off, that little box gets a nice tremor through it. It feels like something is clicking inside of it.

sounds like your stereo is wired horribly wrong. Did the installer of the stereo bypass the cars stock amps? if he did not, that could cause it. keep the relay, and run frsh wires to every speaker out of the back of the head unit. then re-wire the realy t get the antenna to work.

I have no idea how it was wired. That means I have to pull all the wires up? Where are the stock amps?

you dont have to pull all the wires out. easiest way to do this, get a slection of connectors that crimp on, male and female, and wire to wire. The buy some 16awg wire in two different colors. red and black are the easiest. Use black as the ground, and red for hot, and just rewire all your speakers into your headunit.

If you live near me, give me $20 bucks and supply the things needed to do the job, and I'll do it for you.

Does anyone know for sure how the radio would react to an overload of the stock amps?

My guess would be that the headunit is sending out a powered signal to the stock amps which have a power output less than the headunit. pull out a speaker, and run wires from the headunit to it, and turn it up past where they normally cut out, if the speaker doesnt cut out, then just run new speaker wire.

I had a stereo cutting out problem.

Turns out I had a crappy ground going to my head unit. Reground it. See what it does.

I have no idea. You are going to have to figure that out.

However, when you find it. Splice a new wire into that attachs to some metal point on the car. Like the chassis the stereo goes into.

Ground is usually the black wire coming out of the stereo attaching to the chassis at some point. if you find it, make sure its attached firmly and has good conductivity.
