steering wheel removal

im like, spamming the boards today.. but dont flame cuz i searched and used the service manual!

anyways i cant take the stupid steering wheel off, after i unscrewed the 22mm bolt (which was a bitch for some reason) i cant take the steering wheel off, it says to use a "puller" in the manual but i dont knwo what the hell a puller is.. it has a really undetailed picture of somebody using one, it doesnt look like anyhing special.. i have an S5 vert if it matters...

Put the nut back on a few threads, so that when it pulls off it doesnt smack you in the face. (Dont laugh, Ive done it ) Then pound on the wheel on the edges, and grab it and pull one side at a time, left , then right, very hard and fast. Pull like hell, itll come off. They do sell a special puller tool for the wheel. It basically just screws into the wheel, and you then start tightening down a screw and it pulls the wheel off. I own one, but have never had to use it. Its on there very tight, just shake it back and forth, and tug hard.

A puller at an Autozone or a NAPA will cost you about $12.00. I have had my steering wheel off maybe 6 times and needed it each time. Mine will not snap off.
Make sure you get a metric puller tho.

the times ive taken my steering wheels off and they absolutely will not budge, i wait till the middle of the night (if you have the time to wait) when it gets colder and itll pull right off if i cant get it off during the day.

If you are feeling ballsy you could give it a whirl with a propane torch too

start shaking the wheel vigorously back and forth. you will feel it loosen up after a while then it will just pop off. who need a steering wheel puller? not me.
