Steering Wheel Removal?

Hey everyone, I have an extremely stupid question. How do I take the steering wheel off of my 89 TII without damaging it?

Best regards,
Jameson

You need at streering wheel puller. Get them at Auto Zone, Napa, etc. Think its about 10.00. Make sure its metric.

Disconect the negative lead on the battery. Unscrew 3 screws holding the steering wheel cap. Use a marker of some sort to identify the position of the steering wheel to the column. If you don't do so, you may have problem getting the wheel on dead center when you put it back on. When you tighten the puller, you will hear a bang when it is released. Will need a large metric socket. Think it is a 24 but not certain.

Just take the center cap off, then remove the one large nut that you'll see. Sometimes you can then just give it a good yank and it will come off, but sometimes youll need to get a steering wheel puller.

*edit* BTW I've taken many steering wheels off and only once did I *need* a wheel puller. It is nice to have though. And Im pretty sure that there is an arrow on the steering column, and an arrow on the steering wheel that line up, so you dont have to worry about lining it up.

When you are trying to yank off the steering wheel be careful not to hit yourself in the face with it. I've heard many people have done this before. LOL

When yanking it off, leave the nut on there a couple threads. This way you CAN'T hit yourself in the head.

Heh, thanks guys I knew how to do the second part, but i wasn't smart enough to look behind the wheel to remove the center cap.

And no, ya don't need a puller, ya just need brute force.

Regards,
Jameson

If you don't have a Steering Wheel Puller, gently rock It side to side allowing the Wheel to free from the center gear.
