Question Steering wheel question s4

How do you take the dang Steering wheel off?

I see the two phillips head screws but what do you do after that?

All I need to do is set the Steering wheel in the right direction.

I already looked in the FSM and couldn't find what I was looking for.

thanks

if you need to set the steering wheel straight get an alignment......the splines on the steering wheel shaft are so fine (at the wheel anyway) you will have that thing on and off 60 times before you get it dead on

hey I know I need an alignment but I just need to get it off now so it won't be sideways. It's the freakin weekend what shop is going to be open today!!!

All I want to know is how to get the steering wheel off! I didn't ask you if I needed an alignment and I don't think you care how many times I take the steering wheel off to get it just right.

All I asked was how to take off the wheel.

Go to Pep Boys or Auto Zone. Buy a Steering Wheel Puller for about $10-$15 and follow the instructions. It's very easy. Why is the wheel crooked? Did someone remove and replace it, or did the front end take a hit?

hahaha........sorry - its friday here - im open - saturday morning too.....

anyways..if you're bound and bent to take the wheel off fine.....once you get the screws out of the back of the wheel...pull the horn portion back and carefully detach the metal tabs - you will have a hard time attaching these when you re-install it..

then remove the big nut in the center with a impact (easiest with an impact...might struggle with a rachet.,....

then PULL

good question - if its SOOO far out of whack that you are afriad to drive the car, you might have more problems then the steering wheel being crooked

A. How did the Steering wheel get so far out of whack?
B. The steering wheel will not be centered after an alignment.
C. Why does it have to be centered to drive it to the shop? They will know somthing is obviously fucked.

Jesus Christ...don't go to this guy's shop. Sounds like Mr Half-assed has three tools in his tool box: hammer, vice grip, and duct tape.

Seriously, get a gear puller.

Hey guys, sorry about being angry. I just was wondering about pulling the wheel because I just put in my power steering and I obviously didn't put in everything perfectly so now I have to pull the wheel because it's like a half turn off. Right now I can't see the speedometer while driving straight because the wheel is in the way.

I've owned an s5 before but I didn't know about any metal tabs under the plastic. If I can just get the stupid plastic off I will be able to get the large nut off and the wheel off.

Thanks for answering my question. Is there anything else other than the metal tabs that is holding the plastic on?

hilairious.....sorry but all the wheels Ive ever taken off of these cars come off like cherry pie...OF COURSE use a gear puller if its stuck - as mentioned before I posted....

But serisouly don't make an attack on someone that:

a) you don't know
b) you are making speculation about
c) you are entirely incorrectly perceiving

its not nice man...........lol

i bought a gear puller ... you really dont need it for taking off a steering wheel, unless its jammed/rusted in there good. I think i used mine once and have done at least a dozen different cars after that.

like classic said ... you shouldnt make fun of peoples methods, especially if it would save people time and money. If everyone followed the haynes book word for word you wouldnt have all these write-ups in the archives
