Question Steering Wheel Question

Hi. I have a stupid noob question (I'm not much of a car guy yet)...
Anyway, I'm considering purchasing a aftermarket steering wheel and I was curious if I needed a special piece that will allow me to fit the wheel on the column.
Thanks!

Just look at what the steerning wheel needs are. If you get a grant or somthing similar you will need a mounting kit.

Ok, that's what I figured. Is there any specific kit I would need (for a particular kind of wheel) or are all the kits pretty much the same (any kit will do for most wheels)?

Yes, you need a steering wheel hub adapter.
This allows the aftermarket steering wheel to bolt onto the adapter which fits over the stock splines on the steering column.

I prefer MOMO, Nardi / Personal, or Sparco.

Grant is crap compared to the above, but Grant does have a niche due to it's lower price.

i have a grant mahogany steering wheel in my s-10 pickup that has been there for 8 years and 80k miles. it looks as good now as it did when i purchased it and as a mechanic my hands are like sandpaper on it. i was rather impressed with how well it is holding up that i will buy another one when the time comes that i am tired of the FC steering wheel. i would suggest getting the billet adapter kit for the proper application because it adds alot to the integrity of the wheel, i had one with a standard kit on my elcamino and it looked like crap with the rubber boot and it had some flex to it, the billet one has no give and looks nice with most any wheel.

Um, this scares me.
The MOMO adapters are designed to collapse in a collision.
If you look at it, it will give in an accident.
If you make this unit solid, I would be wary if you smack the steering wheel and it doesn't give...

hitting the steering wheel scares me, i wear my seat belt thanks...

even if the seat belt does break on my 175lb butt i would be more concerned about the windshield right in front of the steering wheel more than the wheel. my brother also used a grant in his camaro, he physically bent the steering wheel and it caused no harm to him and the steering wheel did not break. i am not concerned about the deflection of the steering wheels themselves.

Question. I'm getting a Sparco steering wheel. But Sparco doesn't make a hub for the FC. They have one for the Miata  What do I get for a hub? Sparco hasn't responded to my e-mail.

I'm pretty sure Momo hubs will work for Sparco wheels.

Hrmmm. I'll have to see what Sparco tells me. Unless someone has one and can beat them to it.

I had a miata sparco hub on my car. It was fine on my 89 GXL but when I switched it to my 87 TII it would keep making the beep saying something was wrong with it. I prolly installed it wrong tho

But call em to make sure!
