Found me a 10th AE but...

Hey all

i found one of the rare 10th AE's in NC, yet its in pretty bad condition.

well as you see its in bad shape, but then again for being as old as it is and being a DD car its kinda ok to see it.

well heres the low down:
the odometer is broken at 50,020 miles
the fender is damaged as you see
its got all the power goodies
AC works
it had a reassembly 5 years ago (new housings)
the driver side door wont open
interior is obviously a smokers
idles at about 1800 when cold

the guy is asking $2500
i checked with Kbb and it spit out about $2,100, im thinking its worth it may try to low ball him down to 2100 but do you guys think its worth paying that much to have a 10th AE and fix it up back to spec?

Id say the body damage knocks a fair ammount, same with the interior. I would offer way below $2,000. But then I dont know much about buying cars.

I wouldn't pay $1000 for it.. Looks like it had PD failure and burst into flames almost.. Damn.. I think that's one of the nastiest engine bays i've ever seen on an FC. I don't think it would be worth it to restore it, but then again it's always nice to see a good condition AE running down the road.. Personally, i'd search for another one.. That guy is smoking crack for 2500 IMO.

yes and try to talk his down........below 2k

did you mean the passenger door? cuz the drivers is open in the picture, or did you mean wont open from the outside?

with that kinda damage and wear offer him $1300. Thats in some sad shape. If he doesnt take it, let it sit for a while, after a month or so if its still there come back with your offer again. He'll take up on it when it doesnt move for a while

yeah i know he said he did smell gas from the engine so im supposing theres a PD leak so i would buy it and garage it just to keep it from catching fire. but its like the only 10th AE i have found in the area, and he doesnt have it listed for sale i just asked him if he was willing to part with it. and he said nothing below $2500

and having my old S4 engine i could swap out the rotors for some higher compression and more power. i def dont have the money, but if hes willing to accept extended payment i would do it in a heart beat

but if i did get it i would have to get rid of my S4 base (which is for sale in the 2nd gen classifieds)

but im really bent on gettin it so i may just bite the bullet and get it

it runs and is a daily driver so its mechanically intact.

im just like a little kid looking at my favorite RC car and would give anyhting to have it right away even if i knew they may have it on sale in a month or two.

but i just dont want to wait and maybe not even have a chance of buying it, i mean theres no competition its just the fact that he said he wouldnt take any less than that. i just dont want to loose a 10th AE it would make my project car plans much more feasable

gahh i want it

Eh, that's your prerogative then. Me, I'll never understand the fascination with 10th AE's, most the time they are in moderate to poor condition (or like the one you're looking at, BAD) and weren't taken very good care of. But oh well, it's a part of rotary history, I guess.

i guess the alure of it to me is that its a running turbo and the fact its a 10th AE sweetens the deal

because i have only been finding non working blown engine TIIs and thier in bad shape too so i guess its the pick of the litter and my litter is pretty weak

Well he said the engine is a reman 5 years ago with new housings, so the engine may be worth it, and the useable parts could be sold, I'd take it for 500 I think

I'd love to say jump on it, but for that kind of money? Hell no, I paid 3000 for my vert and it was perfect when I got it. So ehh...much as I love the 10AE, I have to say you're gonna get screwed on that deal right there.

I'd say it's worth maybe... bout $500, like some of the others said. Then you have a daily driver you can work on and fix up at the same time. The thing is, just because it's an AE doesn't mean it's perfect, running or not. Remember though, if you look hard, you just might notice that it's in very, very poor condition.

I'd say put down $500 as an offer, and if you get it, make it your goal to restore it into one hell of an AE. Then laugh in everyone's face =P However, if you buy it for something like $2000... I believe it'll be our place to laugh at you.

damn i mean its just its a workin TII in my area, if i could find a TII that works that has better body and interior and is cheaper then i may give up hope on it. but as of now this is the only TII i have found, and it isnt even for sale or listed so i would be the only potential buyer.

UGh i cant stand delimas like this

whats your thing... ? turbo, or 10th AE ? i'll tell you right now the owner knows what he's got. and for him to let it go will cost you. sounds like he's happy with the car. ask him if he would consider a trade of cars plus some cash, not much mind you. just to sweetin the pot. you can get another fender pretty cheap, i did and it was $34.00 dollors from the junkyard and even the same colour as my car it just didn't have the TURBOII sticker but i fixed that. under the hood there is a butterfly waiting to came out clean it up, the perfect project car. it's all there. talk to the guy and let him know your interested and not to sell it and that your thinking, and working towards buying his car. tell him your going to restore it back to showroom condition
and not hotrod or tear it up. bottom line is you need to drive the car first before making a committment to yourself on buying the car. something to think about.

C'mon guys. 10AE's arent THAT rare and magical.

This one's a POS, i wouldn't pay more than 500 bucks for that.

yeah i think what i will do is test drive it if it drives well, i may try and talk him down to like 2 grand, as much as it hurts for me to spend that much on a car this may be one FC that i will actually keep for a change.

and my thing is the TII not the 10th AE the fact its 10th AE just makes it better. and i have no other cars to trade or barter with just my S4 base Shell which im selling for $500 so i mean i could just be like i'll make a down payment of $500 and pay the rest monthly, but i mean damn its alot of complecation for it

Based on the condition and wether or not you're willing to go through the pains of restoring it, $500 sounds like all I'd give him. The engine rebuild, although nice, dosen't effect this fact IMHO. Honestly, the guy is just trying to play you for a fool if he thinks that a car in that condition is going to sell for $2500. Just get him back by saying that you could get an s5 Turbo II in very decent condition for $3k and they were rarer than the 10ae, then talk him down to $500 from there, being that you just stole his thunder of having a "Rare car"

$2500 for that
