I had that happen to me once. I was rough with the steering wheel and jerked it back and forth until the key would turn. Be nice to the key.

Is this some kinda trick question so you can steal a car?

Turn the steering wheel left and then right.
One way will have more resistance than the other.
Turn the steering wheel to the side with more resistance.
Insert key into ignition.
If this doesn't wory, jiggle the ignition key.
If that doesn't work, jiggle both the ignition key and the steering wheel slightly.
If that doesn't work, check to make sure you're using the right key!

Mazda keys are double cut keys, and can be used both ways.
You might want to flip the key around to see if the opposite side works better.
Sometimes it does.

If you don't have the right key, and the previous owner can't find it, you can always remove the switch assembly. Not the easiest thing to do, but it can be done.
