Steering pump, yay or nay

My 88 power steering pump went out. I was wondering if they are easy to take off. Will it hurt anything to run without it?

yes, running a power steering rack without a pump will destroy it, and if my memory serves me, its even harder than manual steering.

If you're willing to drive without power steering then switch out the racks and ditch the pumps.
For me it was well worth it due to the extra engine space, better steering control (imo) and its really not that hard to drive anyways if you're not a girly man.

what if you dont have a rack. if your running with a PS setup, but without the pump or plumbing, is it bad for the internals of the actual rack like was said above? the more difficulty set aside...

it doesn't have any ill effect on the rack it's self as long as you pull the lines and seal the holes on the rack. Done right it'll last forever...and you'll get a workout everytime you cruise around town.
