Starting problems when the car is cold
Starting problems when the car is cold
it won't start in the mornings because it's to cold I'm assuming. I live in San Diego, CA so it's not like it really gets cold here but the car won't start for about 10 minutes and this morning I had to try pop starting it and when that didn't work I tried to just start the car regularly and it did start. Throughout the rest of the day it starts up no problem after being parked for 5 hours at school and then 5 more hours at work. What could be the problem? By the way it's an 88 gxl.
The most likely problem is that the water thermo sensor is disconnected on the back of the water pump housing. Do an ADVANCED SEARCH using the term CHART and HAILERS and you should find a thread on how the RX uses rpm, water thermo sensor info, and the Start signal to deliver fuel during the START cycle. The AFM is not used during START.
Or download the TRAINING MANUAL from this site and download the Fuel and EMISSIONS section to see the same information.
You'll find that chart in this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ighlight=CHART
To see if your water thermo sensor is good/working, just access the ECU and probe the water thermos sensor wire with the plug on the ECU and the engine fully hot. The reading should be approx a half volt dc at 180 degrees. Like 0.40 to 0.50 vdc.
