Check the battery connections as well as the starter connections. Make sure they are very clean and connected well because that can cause problems. If the starter is old it will work sometimes and not others so if all else fails get a new starter.

It probably would have started if you kept trying but it seems like the starter is still having issues. Once the starter is working right try getting it running and if it doesn't want to start it may be flooded.

If the car is flooded try unplugging the relay under/behind the steering wheel. with it unplugged try starting the car. If it starts, your car is flooded. Don't panic if a lot of white smoke comes out. when it cut off, plug it back in and try starting the car. Have fun

Yes, it is fine to jump your car. Make sure you have a good strong battery when you try to start it, or a good donor car

Clicking can happen with a low battery so maybe that is the culprit. Also the alternator could be bad.
