Starting issues

Was having the click click start issue with original starter that HOZZMAN tackled in another thread, but i can’t find the problem. It has now turned into click click never start. Replaced starter. I get 12.5v to the starter, 12.4v when key to start. Clutch switch has continuity, however I’ve never needed to press clutch while starting before, just saying. I’ve jumped the starter, gotten the sparks, then got out from under and it started. When i did that, i turned it off, started again, turned off, didn’t start, spammed the clutch, started, turned off, then no restart whatsoever after that. Sorry if that was confusing I’m typing this immediately after all, and am aggravated and flustered.

Update:

disconnected the blue jumper plug under trailing coil for the starter-cut, and touched a wire from battery pos to the black/white wire and it cranks on. I read another forum that said to do it from batt to black/GREEN wire, but nothing happens when i do that, so I’m really stumped now.
After it started, i shut it off. Restarted with key, fired up. Repeat. 4th time no start, just solenoid click.

Have you verified your starter ground is good? If the ground is damaged, it can cause intermittent starting. My car does it too, and I have a known bad ground

Ground looks good, i hit it with some sandpaper to clean it up a bit, how else would I check that?

2nd update:

doing the battery-to-bluejumperplug(white/black) no longer works.
Now, instead on running from battery to blue jumper, i touched a wire from battery straight to starter solenoid. Started right up.
So, the issue must be from the blue plug-> starter. That wire must be f***** up somehow.

If you have a DMM, check for continuity between the plug and the starter. It's possible something got chewed up or corroded

Suggest trying to run your own wire from switch to starter solenoid (with clutch safety switch inbetween). Factory wiring is old and I’ve seen this issue on a few wiring harnesses.

ive addressed this by making a push start which is only for starter so I still use key to ignition on to power everything else, and I was surprised by the difference.
