And you're putting your foot on the clutch (all the way to the floor) before trying to start it?

The neutral sensor actually isn't a required part of the starting circuit. I start mine in gear all the time to bypass the AWS. However, the clutch has a safety switch at the end of it's travel that *is* linked to the start circuits. If that's misadjusted or not working, the starter won't get power.

It's also possible that the starter is bad. Try rapping on it with a hammer a few times and see if it does anything after that.

Simple way to tell: Put a voltmeter between the positive terminal on the starter and ground while someone tries to start the car. If you've got +12v, the starter is bad. If no voltage, then something in the circuit is bad.

sounds like its just a starter... try the above post with the volt meter or pull out the old one and have it tested at a parts store.... its only two bolts...

yeah mine is doing the same thing... i hear the starter whirring but thats it. it left me at a gas station and someone suggested a push start and sure enough it worked...but i just installed a new starter and had it tested before hand....so idk what to do...i was going to take off the starter wire and just make a new connection to the crimped end but it got dark. im also thinking about doing the same thing to the battery terminals...do you think that will help any?

You know the silenoid may just not be engaging on yours, and as for the starter not activating it too could be the starter not engaging. I used to have this problem on my eclipse... and I just kept a large socket wrench in the car so I could tap on it.
