VA Starter won't disengage

I have an 1988 RX-7-T2. My starter is not disengaging after attempting to start the car sometimes. I attempted and did the sticky starter fix that has been posted here as well. I changed back to the regular wiring and it is still doing the same thing. I haven't really looked at this yet as I just rebuilt the engine and got it started this week. I will be looking it up in the manual. I just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions. I am sure someone has run into the issue before. This seems to be happening when the car is cold and I haven't started it for the day. (even though I have only had it running a few days) It did it yesterday morning so I said screw it and took another vehicle to work. Then when I come home I crank it and it didn't do it and started up after a try or 2 and had it running for a while. (trying to get the break in miles on it) I did search and didn't really turn up much on this issue. Anyways if you have an idea I would like to hear it.

Replace the starter before the flywheel teeth are rounded. Just buy a starter and try it. If it fixes the problem keep it. If the problem persists, return it. I think the convertible model starter has a little more torque and is a direct replacement?

Thanks for the advice. I talked to a starter and alternator place and they said it seems like a starter issue. I am going to take it to this place I was referred to called (brownings starter and alternators). They fixed a friends starter off of another model vehicle, but only cost him $8.50 and was a diode that needed replaced.

I took the car in after push starting it. They pull the starter after saying yeah it seems like a starter issue. They open the starter up and everything is all rusted inside. So they replace some items and put it back on the car and it cranks right up. The starter cranks over so fast it is ridiculous and this is off the original wire that it is hooked up and not the bypass that I created trying to send more power to the starter from the sticky start bypass thread. So I should have just bought another starter. Would have been cheaper. Maybe the labor charges it was cost me lmao. Those 3 bolts that took 5 minutes to take off and put back on.
