Starter not turning over
So I've done some searching and can't seem to find any solid answers. What I had originally thought to be a dying battery doesn't seem to be at all. When trying to start the car (car is an 88tII)starter would turn really slow, which I thought was the battery, and now I cannot get it to turn over even when hooked up to another car with cables. tried jumping it with the battery in and out, tried charging the battery, and I tried it with the battery still connected to the charger (which showed me the highest vlts on my s-afc of 14 at the batt). still nothing, I checked the solenoid connections and all seems to be good, and I cant see any blown fuses or broken wires. I'm confused as to why the starter would turn and now nothing, btw the idiot lights do dim when i try to crank it but there is no click from the starter, and i can also hear the fuel pump. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I was hoping to get this thing back up and running this week, this is my only set-back.
First, take a voltage meter and check the batteries, at the terminals.... If your idiot lights are dim, you're lacking base voltage.
Secondarily, you could try a regular jump, let the car idle for about 10mins, take it down the street (mebbe 15-30mins) then turn it of and try again.
If your battery's losing power, and nothing's running, check the alternator.... As well, check your grounds. It's quite likely your dropping current, that way.
I was going to suggest a different starter (bad spot?) but if you get that far, chances are you'll identify your problem.

Post # 8 in the following link would be as good a "starting" point as any.

For sure!
HOWEVER: The starter is affected not only by those points made, but also by a lack of current to turn it over and by factors involving itself.
A dead spot would definitely prevent it from accomplishing it's preset task of spinning. I'm doing a bunch of work on my buddy's car (95 Civic w/ a JDM engine swap, LS trans, t3/t4 turbo, FMIC, full ignition, full fuel system, swapped and chipped ECU.... You get the point) and HIS problem is the dead-spot issue.
Assuming the starter itself isn't suspect (and the available cranking power is available), the above post is spot on.
Ups!

IF the battery is health but the idiot lights dim when you go to START...............sounds much like a toasted starter. Have someone look at the headlights when you go to START. If they dim when the key is HELD to START.........to me that means the elect circuit to the starter is good but the sucker is just a dud starter.
Jack the car. Put it in neutral. Using a common screwdriver bridge the gap b/t the small trigger post on the solenoid ..and the large cable on the starter solenoid. When doing this the starter should spin over fast. IF slow..........make sure the large ground cable from the battery neg post to the bellhousing is bolted down. Normally its connected to the starters LONG bolt but may be bolted to one of the bell housing attach bolts.
\Lot of this written above, depends on the batt being real good and the attachments on the positive and neg post on the battery being good.

^I just tried this with a screwdriver and all i got was a little spark and a clicking noise resembling a relay or something. I guess its time to throw a new starter in?
