Starter issues (searched)
87 base that had all the wiring cut. Replaced all the wiring with the only stuff available from an 88 Vert.
The parts of the wiring that were NOT replaced were the engine harness and the rear harness.
The entire main harness was replaced from ecu to front bumper and the charge/start harness was replaced.
Problem: Starter wont turn over, wont click, wont do anything. I know the starter is good because i put power to the solenoid and it turned over perfectly. Tried the jumper where the starter cut relay should be and it didnt change anything. Checked the switch on the clutch and its good. Even tried jumping that plug and that didnt change a thing.
The B/G wire where the cut relay should be doesnt have any voltage when key is on or to start.
Is this something to do with putting vert wiring in a coupe or is it something else?
Like i said i searched and tried all the tricks. Nothing is working.

There are two wires that run to the Starter Cut relay which are Black/Green. One B/G wire has voltage w/key to on and the other one has voltage w/key to start and the Interlock switch on the clutch depressed. It is this second B/G wire which needs to be jumpered to the B/W wire at the relay. So The B/R wire at the Interlock switch has voltage w/key to start and then the voltage would be passed onto the B/G wire at this switch with the key to start and clutch depressed and then the voltage is jumpered to the B/W wire off of this B/G wire to bypass the alarm aspect of the Starter Cut relay as the B/W wire runs to the starter solenoid.

The answer to this is probably..................one of these two cars was probably a automatic transmission car.
IF that is NOT the case..........the 88 wiring shows the black/green is a direct shot to the clutch interlock switch. No connectors inbetween and wires DO NOT just break inside the harness over the years. That's is a myth.
So what you do is..............you go undo the clutch interlock switch and put the meter on the Black/Red wire in the two wire plug coming from the ignition switch. Then key to Start and see if voltage shows up there. IF one of these cars was a automatic .............I believe you will not have a B/R wire but a wire of another color....I forget the color at the moment. I know on a automatick the color is not the same as a stick shift.
IF wiring is automatic.........the wire coming from the ignition switch plug will be Black/Green instead of Black/Red.
An automatic start circuit goes not thru the Starter Cut Relay but thru the inhibitor switch that was part of the automatic transmission harness (ain't thar no 'mo, auto trans that is).
Or the problem could be another thing.
Jumper the two wire electrical connector for the clutch interlock switch and see if the start signal now shows up at the Starter Cut Relay plug. You seem to know what your doing.
I know there are differences in the wiring b/t 87 and 88 cars 'cause I've been there done that on this forum. But memory tells me the diff in elect plugs was AFTER the Starter Cut Relay's plug NOT prior to that plug.
Sad to say.......lost my 86-87 non turbo Start/alternator circuit diagram so I can't compare it with the 88. But memory says the diff was AFTER the starter cut relay plug. So matters not much at all that I can't find my diagram.

Well..............since you installed a FRONT harness out of the 88 stick car and almost all the wiring for the starter circuit is in the FRONT harness.................forget anything I said.
Front harness runs from the interior passengers side........over to the drivers side........into the engine bay and goes waaaay up front around the radiator.
So all the wiring from the ignition key.........to the clutch interlock swith..........to the elect plug for the starter cut relay are all in the FRONT harness and you got that out of a stick trans car. So all is ok there and should ape the 88 online diagrams for a 88.
After the starter cut relay elect plug the front harness will now connect to the ENGINE harness which has stuff in it like the starter trigger wire, battery, engine bay fuse box etc.
My memory says there is a diffence b/t a 87 and 88 wiring where the FRONT harness mates with the ENGINE harness.
But again Your problem seems to lie in the FRONT harness b/t the starter cut relay plug ........to the interlock switch.......to the ignition switch plug that has the B/R wire.
I've no idea then why you have no power to the large BLACK/GREEN WIRE in the starter cut relay plug.
Jumpering power from the battery positive post directly to the BLACK/WHITE wire in the start cut relays elect plug should cause the starter to spin over.........proving that part of the wiring is just fine and dandy. Car out of gear when doing so. If the starter does not spin doing that........then there's yet another problem.

starter does work fine when doing that.

If you're able to show that the B/R wire at the Interlock switch has voltage w/key to start and then the B/G wire in the same switch has voltage w/key to start and clutch pedal depressed but there is no voltage on the thick gauge B/G wire at the Starter Cut relay then the focus should be on the B/G wire and how it fails to show voltage at the relay as it should, thus a continuity test on this segment of wire should be in the cards.

CAn you possibly be mistaking the clutch interlock switch for the other switch on the clutch pedal??? INterlock switch is the one WAAAAAAY up at the top of the pedal. Two large gauge wire of black/green and black/red.
I noticed you had already jumpered to the starter solenoid to see if the starter would turn, I just didn't know if you'd jumpered to the B/W at the starter cut relays elect plug.........which is a bit differnt thing in that there is another elect plug b/t the cut relay and the starter solenoid.

Jumpered everything there is to be jumpered to try to make it work.

Thats under the dash if i'm looking at the picture correctly. I dont recall that plug being around at all. What would it plug into? The plug on the interlock switch is only to wires (or at least i thought). Please correct me if i'm wrong. The plug i found in the engine bay where the relay itself should be is black

The Interlock switch wires ought to be the same gauge as the B/W wire in the Starter Cut relay. Also, look at the difference between the Interlock switch and Clutch switch in the following link.
