what side is the positive and negative side on the starter,and where does the black wire on the starter go i think i hooked up the wires wrong and i smelled something burning and the car will not start, by the way this is from a 88 gtu that i just put in a 87 t2 motor and trying to finish this project. thanks guys

Did you start that other thread?
Big thick wire goes on the solenoid...thin wire clips onto the spade connector.  The start grounds through it's metal case through the engine.
