title says it all, if i throttle it it stays on but it dies on the spot if i let go. it doesnt even try to stay on. i did a smoke test and it only came out of the acv air pump and intake. its a 1991 na. thanks in advanced.

 

If you had smoke coming out that explains your problem right there

 

It was a valve that was supposed to be open so smoking coming out from there is normal, would low fuel pressure cause this?

 

the ACV only connects to the exhaust, so no smoke should be coming out of there unless it passes through the engine first and then it is likely to just go out the tailpipe before anything on the ACV.

 

what other test have you performed? smoke test is kind of a weak test, I would check vacuum leaks with brake clean or even water while it is running

what kind of service work has been performed since the last time it ran correctly?

runs but doesn't idle is typical of a blown up motor, do a compression test

 

smoke test is pretty much the only test i can do i cant keep idle going long enough to test with brake cleaner. its been about 20 years since it last ran. so ive done fuel pump, fuel filter, cleaned the tank. the motor was not seized so i dropped some magic oil in it and turned it by hand. it has new injectors. the car was also automatic so i completed the swap along with a million other things. im guessing its the tps or a vacuum leak. is there a way to test the tps cold?

 

recheck the tank and your fuel pump sock, bet its filthy again.

flushed out rusted tanks take cycling, much like putting new fish into a new tank all you'll do is kill them.

 

im not rotary master but i dont think this is a compression issue, im also hoping its not!, because it catches on the first time when i spun it by hand i removed the plugs and i could hear 3 solid puffs. now i know this isnt a surefire test but it helps me sleep at night lol. ill check the sock. also the pump i have is an fd pump, i got it for free and was told the car would run lean but it wouldnt cause to much trouble until my actual pump arrives

the FD pump won't affect the fuel mixture, in theory it could cause it to run richer than normal but i haven't ever noticed it. the walbros have that issue, but not so much the nippondenso pumps.
