Start car w/out clutch depressed?

Is it possible? I did it with my DSM, i just yanked out the clutch interlock switch. I don't want to press in the clutch to start it. I always leave the car in neutral.

i had an old '81 Plymouth Horizon TC3 and that started without the pedal depressed. It was a completely gutted FWD beater rally car. :-)

Its considered instant death on some engines, when you have the clutch pressed in when starting. Some pressure plates are up to the 2100LB range, so its like putting 2 tons on the end of you E-shaft and thrust bearings.

I think it would be a great idea to disable the clutch switch somehow. Does anyone know why Mazda didn't make it so when you press in the clutch the cruise control shuts off? The computer goes into a crazy frenzy and redlines my car if I forget to turn off cruise (someone pulls in front of me).

First gens start up without pressing the clutch. I wonder why Mazda changed it on 2nd gens?

My old RX-7s cruise control would turn off when I pressed the clutch or tapped the brake. Maybe something is wrong with yours?

Mine also starts that way. It also seems to disable the cold start fast idle cam when I start it that way-

I believe that the later cars made it necesary to push the clutch in to start.

I know that the earlier FC's don't need this... 86-87? I rember reading that somewhere can't member where or what the cutoff date was for this... ?

Isn't the interlock stuff for Autos only?
