Start... but won't start

here we go, EAGE 8, another member of this board, has his 7 parked in front of his house (couldn't tell his parents he bought an FC) so we've been working on it little by little. Here's the problem, about 2weeks ago we went to fell it up, put about 6.5 gal. of fuel in the tank and head back home. We park it, he leaves and I head in side, a week later we come back to it, he goes to fire it up, and no show. The engine cranks, even starts for a split second, but then kills itself. It's a 89 TII with a reman engine and 3,300 on it. Battery is strong, fues are good. all electrical wires are good, groundings need to be replaced, but we should be undertaking that job in a few weeks. Anyone have a go at why it wont start? thanks

Let's get the obvious out of the way: It was able to get warm enough on your gas run to not flood when you got back, right?

Another thing: Any idea how old the plugs are in it? they seriously helped my starting problems when i was getting my rebuild started.. and it was only 20 bucks to pick up two leadings and two trailing NGKs @ Advance Auto (they had them in stock).

that's a good question, sometimes it has zero flooding issues, other times it floods it's *** off. We did deflood the engine several times when trying to get it to start. But, the injectors have been cleaned, not replaced. Also it has a Walbaro fuel pump.

A little obvious, but as it's a Series 5, have you tried starting with the gas floored? Built-in fuel cut I'm sure you know.

yup, tried that. I dont think its flooding though, because it'll actually start, but then it cuts off after about 1second.

IF it does this routine repeatedly, as in time after time one after the other........try jumpering the fuel pump check connector and try it again. If the car remains running, then suspect the afms vance switch is not up to par. Easy fix.

Have you tried new plugs? My initial problem with my rebuild was that i could get it to turn over if i pulled the plugs, blew everything out, put a small amount of oil in the engine, and started it back up.. then it would die after 3-4 seconds, but I had to pull the plugs every time.. after i got some new NGKs, it would turn over every time i turned the key. Then that was my AFM fuel switch messed up. If the AFM fuel swtich is not working, then your car will start, run for about 3-4 seconds, then die... that's what was causing my rebuild to not start...

BonsaiRx7 - Yeah, i know it's cause I have the two good tires on the back... I was thinking about mirroring it with photoshop, but I didn't want to edit the pic I'm probably just going to get new rims when i get new tires, so problem will be solved...
