all the clutter, what do you get to throw away when you go stand alone besides afm and emissions, ie: pressure sensor and the other bits n pieces there on that side, move the main fuse box or redo it etc etc?

I'm thinking either a preloaded megasquirt or just wait a bit longer and go haltech sprint re. megasquirt is 725 and haltech is 1500. the guy selling the megasquirts puts in a base map to suit what you are running port wise. injector size. turbo etc, it obviously would still need a tune.

Im running a megasquirt and have bought two for two different cars, if you can wire at all it's the by far cheaper I got both of mine for $350 and $280 built my own harnesses from the universal harness they offer. Great Tuning software and an exceptional community. I would recommend it.

if you want to learn about the ECU itself and tuning you can go with the megasquirt. If its prebuilt and preloaded with a base map thats good, but as other people said, finding a tuner that will tune on a megasquirt will probably be hard at your place. Though I find tuning between different ecus to be the same, just the small details are different which isnt that huge of a hassle.
But if you dont want to tune it yourself, getting the Sprint RE is a good choice. The only thing that lacks in it is that its limited to 2 programmable outputs, and no internal datalogging so you will need to connect a laptop and run the software to datalog. If you dont need anything extravagant features like in a platinum 1000, the Sprint RE will do fine.
Id just chuck away all the sensors and get new ones compatible with what ever ECU you will run
You can make a plug and play adapter for the stock harness though if your stock wiring harness is in good condition.

you can get rid of just about everything in the engine bay with a standalone, just depends on what you want to keep.
some people don't need headlights or markers, in which case you could virtually only need as little as a small bundle of wires to and from the engine bay.
