Question sputtering

hey everyone, i got a 1986 rx7 se and today as i was leaving work, i started my car...idled for 30 seconds and drove home shifting at about 3000 rpms. as i approached the first redlight i hit the brakes and my car misfired somethin fierce...i thought i lost a wheel or somethin. once i came to a stop i held the rpms around 2500 rpm and it kept trying to stall. it did this until i got to the gas station and shut it off...thining my fuel gage may be innacurat i filled the tank...it took a little over 8 gallons. once i fueled the car i let it totally warm up and then pulled out of the gas station and floored it...first gear great up to redline, second was awesome as well...third gear at about 6800 rpm it felt like a revlimiter feels in a piston junker. i shifted to 4th and then 5th and it was fine the rest of the way home. i even pulled over and tried to duplicat the problem but it was runnig as it always does.

also the car has a rough idle to it...it almost sounds like a heartbeat or a pulse. it does this only when im not on the acellerator...even when im crusing and i let off it will do it a little bit.

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! THANKS EVERYONE

When you decelerate the ECU cuts fuel to both rotors until you get below 1500 RPM.
When you have very light throttle applied (maybe 1%) the ECU cuts fuel to just one rotor.
As soon as you open the throttle a little more, the 2nd rotor also gets fuel.

If this single rotor fuel cut happens at 10% throttle, it's probably because the TPS is out of adjustment.
Also the TPS could be dirty or about worn out.

don't forget the old compression check if it keeps acting up

that line is getting so old...

Here's my TPS checklist:
Using test lights or voltage at idle readings will get your idle setting perfect, but you could still have a worn out TPS resistor.
-The golden test:
Unplug the TPS connector.
Clip a cheap analog (needle type) VOM on the orange & black pins.
Set it to the 1K scale.
Hold off the throttle & work the short range TPS plunger in & out.
You should see a smooth sweep from ~0 to ~5K ohms.
Any bad spots or drop outs in the stroke - it's bad & will give fuel cuts at part throttle.
(Before you toss it, try spray contact cleaner between the sleeve & plunger.)
- Then set it:
Find the fast idle (warm-up) cam & push it back so the throttle sits on the hard idle stop.
Adjust the setting to 1K ohms.
While holding off the fast idle cam, open & close the throttle a few times to see that the 1K setting repeats.
