Spring choices for offroad use
Here's a question that you probably dont get too often:
Does anybody know of stock height or taller (yes taller) springs for my FC with a better spring rate than stock? I am looking to prepare my 88 GXL for SCCA RallyX and Club Rally.
Any other recommendations as far as preparing my car for rally is concerned? I DO plan to gut the interior and upgrade the tires to a truck or gravel type.
Thanks.

stiff! The stiffer the better.
Are you still planning to the daily drive the car? How much thought have you got into this project? How much money? Expect to spend double what you're planning on. It's not a cheap hobby.
If you've got access to a welder, seam weld the body.
You're goign to need better (non stock, and expensive) rebuildable struts. If you run stock or cheap aftermarket, expect to replace them after every rally, and possibly after just a stage or two.
There are a few RX-7s running in prorally right now, you should try and find out what they're running! Other mods you should consider: rollcage, welding sunroof shut (actually, I think this is mandatory), and FIND ANOTHER CAR (for parts) because you will go through amazing amounts of suspension and other parts.

Right now, all I am looking at doing is RallyX and preparing for ClubRally.
I have gone over the SCCA rules book for Performance Rally and am familiar with the safety modifications and licensing requirements for each level of rally.
I understand that for ProRally and ClubRally that I need a roll cage, fire suit, snell compliant helmet, 5 point harnesses, etc.... I believe ProRally requires you to have a late model car (less than 10-12 years old for some classes). I understand that this sport isnt cheap.
This car will be a beater car and not my daily driver.
So, any other brand recommendations for springs/struts?
Thanks for the replies.
