Speedometer seems sloppy.

I am assuming it is probably just that the cable is old, but anyway. My speedo stopped working about a month ago and I finally got around to seeing what was wrong with it. The collar had come loose and the cable had fallen out. Stuff cable back in, tighten down collar. Speedo works now but seems a lot sloppier than before. Seems to go up slower and won't stop as soon as my foot goes off the gas. Any ideas or am I correct in my assumption of just an old cable.

Try taking out the cable and cleaning it, and then relubing it.

Also try cleaning and relubing your speedo (in the dash)

Both easy as hell to do.

You do NOT need to remove the speedo cable assembly, just the speedo cable.

is it possible to get a normal sized hand up in there behind the dash to take it out?

he he he. Depends on your pain tolerance. You only need to do this if you are removing the dash.

To remove the cable, unscrew the assembly at the tranny (by ahnd), and then grab onto the brass spring cable and pull it out. Clean, relube, and slide it back in.

Easy.

NP. If you really want to remove the entire assembly, I suggest you spray some brake systems cleaner down the cable housing while the cable is out, then blow it out with compressed air, and then sray some silicone lube down it and reinsert the cable.

I dunno what lube they use from the factory... seems to be just a grease. Vaseline would work.

Fork the instrument cluster, with a light bristled brush and lube with silicone lube lightly.
