Speedometer messed up

Hey guys... sometimes... out of the blue... when i start my car, the spedometer starts showing speeds anywhere between double and triple the actual speeds... WTF!?... when i turn the car off, and back on, the problem goes off.... and sometimes... when i drive long enough, the problem gets resolved also. There isnt anything in particular that triggers it... i dont know what the hell it could be. Suggestions?

Failing speedo cable - it's a typical problem with these cars...

I can do it within 30 minutes now.&nbsp Give yourself about 2 hours if you haven't done it before...

The hardest parts of it all if getting the clip on the speedo gauge back and getting the damn clip OFF the stupid firewall.&nbsp You'll need to jack up the car to get at the threaded fitting on the transmission - this part is remove and replace.&nbsp You'll just need to snake the new cable in the original position as the old one and snake the ends into the back of the gauge cluster.&nbsp You don't need to remove the instrument cluster - you can snake your arm under the dash and "feel" your way around.
