Speedometer doesnt read/work

Ok. well I drove to the city today to pick up my spoiler from petex and get my free rotor housing from rx7will (sp?) and when I was going back to San Mateo, I started seeing my MPH go crazy, I was going at 40MPH and my speedometer would hop around from 0 to 20 to 30 to 0mph, it was just bouncing all over the place. It later just dropped to 0mph and had a repeating beep go on in my car. So I said **** it, I'll deal with it when I get home.

After driving it a bit more, I started to hear this clunking sound and it sounded like it trailing and bouncing around against metal, so I take the first exit and take a look under my car. A line originating from the engine bay going back to behind the transmission (towards the rear of the car) had fallen off. I can't take a look under there because I have no sufficient jack and didnt wanna lay down in the rain.

On the end of the line looked like a mini valve and around the mini valve looking thing was what looks like at the end of a garden hose, basically so I can screw it onto something. Just think of a spray bottle of Tilex when you take the sprayer out.

Ok, I get back home jack the car up and thread it back onto where it is suppose to be (About a foot or a foot an a half in length from the big drain plug for the transmission. I thought there an easy fix, so I took it around the block and still 0mph from the speedo.

Cliff Notes : My speedo went haywire and was all messed up, kept bouncing around at incorrect speed and then finally stopped dead at 0pmh. Found out that a line of somesort fell off, put it back on (Location:1 foot to 1.5 feet from transmission) and my speedo still doesnt work.

I'll have pics of the line that fell off later, don't have a digicam at hand.

Any advice/suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Mine fell out a while ago too but mine never dragged. I think your speedo cable probably broke somewhere when it was being dragged for an extended period of time. Probably gonna have to pick up a new one....

Probably the line is bad now or the guage.

I took my cluster out one day and never fully connected it back in and it killed the cluster. The gears or something inside never worked right. It would say I was doing 120mph parked and 20mph at 90.

If your lucky tighten that thing back in and it will work.

You may have to leave it in drive and move the car slowly back and forth to get the cable to seat fully in there because the exact placement in there is now off.

No, it is still in one piece but I don't know if the other end is connected or not. Guess I get to take out my cluster tomorrow.... yay...

You can goto Richmond pick and pull and yank off the speedo cable off my old TII. LOL!

But yeah, at which end is the cable loose? If at the end of it, just put it back near the end of the tranny where the hole is. If it got loose at the cluster and some how made its way out (which I doubt, but possible), its a pain in the *** to plug back in tightly and reach behind there.

Yea let me know Dan, cause in all seriousness I really dont think it unplugged from the speedo end. Could the speedo itself be screwed up from this, cause if it can, you might wanna ask him to put his speed aside for me =).

Thanks Dan.
