Hate to start a thread for something this dumb, but I've searched and searched, and can only find SA/FB stuff that is vaguely similar
I, for the life of me, cannot get the speedometer cable sleeve out of my transmission to replace the o ring and seal. It will rotate (not freely, I have to tap it with a mallet), but will not pull out. I've had a 1' pry bar on this thing, and it won't budge. Am I doing something wrong?
I generally work it rotationally along with whatever penetrating oil is handy, making sure it rotates at least somewhat freely (meaning not necessarily loose, but not requiring a mallet) before prying. When prying, I usually start small and work it up/out, trying not to put too much leverage on it at first because a) the tab can break off if you go ham and b) the close fit of the cylinder in the hole means too much pressure at an angle will fight against your trying to move it outwards anyways. Most of the time I start with just a pocket screwdriver, trying to get it to move juuust a tad, because most of the time, once it starts to come out, it pretty easily comes all the way out. It's that initial getting it past an old, dry o-ring that you want to focus on.
