check the speedo cable. me and a buddy had to re-install the speedo wire into the speedo cable. Its all mechanical...

Get under the car and unscrew the speedo cable from the tranny. Expect some fluid to come out...

I guess if you're confident (and considering it doesnt work already...) I'd just pull the wire out of the cable. If its broken, you'll instantly see where.

If when you pulled it all the way out, the gauge end has a straight.. boxed sorta, flatened end, the wire is ok. Get some good lubrication and start to put it back into the cable. Make sure to use lubrication!!! otherwise there your speedo will jump around instead of being smooth.

It will get kinda tough to push into the cable, but not too bad if you used the lube... (haha)... Anyhow, once you've come to the other end, spin it until it catches in place in the speedo gauge. pull it back out an inch or so and reinstall in the tranny.

It should pop right back in place on the speedy gauge when you start to drive (this would *not* be a good time to drop the clutch).

Worked fine when i did it this way...

Goodluck

EDIT: I used lithium red high impact (overkill.. heh) for the lube btw...

when mine didn't work it simply came loose from behind the instrument cluster. i know it sounds simple, but make sure and check that first

pull the dash and check the cable....it could have come unplugged from the tranny and in that case you will need a new one and will take about 20 minutes to install. Its very straightfoward.

Buy a new one? Why, if its intact and not all mushed up it should work fine... Its a rarity that it just comes unpluged, but I suppose it could happen without eating it up...

Does the other end of the cable that goes into the speedo gauge have something to keep the cable in the speedo gauge? The cable keeps coming off after I putting it back into the speedo gauge. Is there something that holds the cable into the gauge?
