speedmachine raised prices for front lips @#^!@&% :(

whats up with speedmachineperformance.com raising the price of their front lips? last time i checked, the replica stock TII front lip in fiberglass was 150. now its 200! and the CF one is now 280!

The first price was only for a limited time if I recall. The new price is the regular price now if that's the case.

Screw dat I agree with Jacob, everyone is always jacking prices. I found a the FC1000 ignition box in Summit for $139 and RX7.com wants 179. Also I can find AVC-R's NIB on Ebay for $369 every dang RX store wants about $500. I can see making a living and all that but you cant tell me the Ebay stores are selling them at cost and not making a living. I have asked some of those stores to see about getting some AEM widebands see if I cant get one of those at a bit more reasonable price other than $450. Sorry for going a bit off the subject. Anyway I agree with Jacob!

Unless you're have no idea what it takes to run a business, some of you are showing your ingnorance.
A LOT of online sellers are working out of their own apartments and have very little overhead in terms of shop costs (i.e. leases).
I get asked ALL THE TIME about starting up a show, but rent prices down here START AT $2,000/MONTH.
This means I need to do at least one rebuild a month just to pay the fricken' rent on the shop space.
Then people bitch about why I DON'T have a shop - see above.
Since SpeedMachinePerformance obviously has a shop, you're talking about a LOT of overhead to run the business - shop rent, utilities (electricity, water, garbage, sewage), inventory you're sitting on, R&D, investment in tools and machinery.
THIS **** COSTS MONEY.

Lowballers **** up the entire industry, cause all they care about is low prices.
This means the dumbfuck who quotes the lowest prices will get all the business...until they start ******* people over, but new customers will always be suckers.
LOYAL customers don't mean jack **** anymore.
Your typical import car enthusiasts just wants to the lowest price.
If you don't have the lowest prices, they are going to ask you to match someone elses lower prices.
This pissed off low-volume shops (make under $500k a year), cause it hurts the bottom line.
Inevitably, low ballers kill off most of these shops.

When you buy something from me, you're not just buying the item.
You get support and if you run into problems in the future AFTER THE SALE, I will try my best to help you with your problem.
It is very hard to put an estimate on such service, but this is why I charge more than other lowballers do.
I'm sorry, but I can't compete with the eBayers who sell $5 plastic AFM adapters.
I offer a cast aluminum unit that will LAST LONGER than those $5 piece of crap, and there is a lifetime warranty on that unit as long as I'm alive.
This is why I charge $30 for them.

I'm sure other vendors can relate...

RET, I'll agree with with you on most of your points, aside the fact that OF COURSE WE LOOK FOR THE LOWEST PRICES....

Believe me, If I had the MONEY, I would consistantly go to a shop/store that has what I want regardless of the price, but MOST import enthusiests are low on cash.... so, it's a risk for everyone.... but I am a firm believer for you get what you pay for.... so who knows right? I sound like a total b*ner, and am going to stop now.... that was my borrowed .02

Hey, I can relate...
I used to buy "gray market" car audio stuff until I changed the way I bought stuff.
Nowadays, I just work a few weeks more to pay for the higher price.

What gets me is how people bitch about prices, buy from some online vendor who does very little or NO support, and then the buyers bitch about how they've been abandoned.
A good example is Haltech ECU's...
*I* support a LOT of Haltech users who are not my customers.
A LOT of these owners cannot get the proper support from the vendors they buy the Haltech's from.
The customers that have gotten their Haltechs from me, I give them almost unbelieveable service - I'm basically on call 24 hours, and if they run into a problem, I try to get the problem FIXED within an hour - local area only of course.
These customers I do no put any sorta limits of how much I give them support.
This is how I define my customers service, and this is how I justify my prices.
My Haltech work is guaranteed by me for life.
Any problems with the Haltech itself, I diagnose and fix (if possible) myself.

I really can't offer this kinda service if I had to worry about overhead on shop rent.
Renters just bend you over.

Certain items can be bought at cheapest price, but most people forget that if you run into problems with their purchase, these online vendors will usually abandon you.

This is why I don't sell items that are in direct competition with low ballers.
Why play price war with these guys?
You can't make money in such a price war.
Yes, these vendors with the rock bottom prices are make very little profit on their sales - I've be surprised they are making 10% on their bottom line.
These vendors are usually buying very large volume or backdooring from another source for their sales.
If you've ever been in this business, most manufacturers (i.e. HKS, GReddy, A'PEXi) require buy-in's and you pay for shipping.
So initially shipping costs you need to carry over to the consumer.
Then if you're doing mail order, you again gotta charge the customer for S&H.
Typical WD prices on most of this stuff is around 25% to 40%.
Shipping from warehouse to you eats into the profit margin.
Shipping from you to customer eats more into the profit margin (vendors usually make the customer pay for S&H though).
Unless you have a very good and understanding warehouse rep, you're going to have to sit on inventory.
Sitting on inventory wastes money.
A LOT of vendors will run into problems with getting items shipped to them from the wholesalers - look at all the problems the RX-7 Store is getting about items they haven't receivered on their end to ship to customers.

Personally, I try to support the local shops.
If you run into problems, it's easier to deal with face-to-face rather than on a phone - if you can get them on the phone.
