Speaker size in doors for 90 Vert?
What size are the speakers in the doors of the 90 vert? They are the ones toward the front of the doors with the triangle shaped grill. I think they are 5 1/4 and I want to put MB Quart 6 1/2s in the doors. Any ideas?

they are supposed to have 5 1/4" speakers in there but people have managed to get 6 1/2" speakers in there...I personally don't see how as I could barely get the 5 1/4"s to fit depth wise...the magnet is just hitting the bolt location for the window track! so if anyone has any Ideas on how to get them to fit better without hacking up my interior...enlighten me
by the way they speakers are 5 1/4 infinity reference series 552i!

There are aftermarket adaptors
that are essentially a ring spacer you mount between the speaker and door. If you look, the stock speaker has such a spacer.
There is a fair amount of room that the speaker can be moved OUT away from the door into the cavety of the door cover. So, the smart play is to space it out to take advantage.

I am curious as well. I would like to put a 6 1\2 speaker in the door of my 87 GXL. Sounds like the spacers would work great if I could get ahold of them. Curious to see if it ruined the bass though since it might not be sealed.

You should be able to get them at just about any sterio shop, or even order through Crutchfields.
As to the racing fenders, where the heck did that question come from in this thread? LOL
Anyway, check out this thread for an answer to this fender question:

If you buy them, don't get plastic ones. Speakers mounts should always be a solid as possible.

There should be more room in the convertible front speaker pods. The coupe speaker pods (both mid door & front door) require a spacer as mentioned above.
If you really want to know, call crutchfield (www.crutchfield.com) and ask them what speakers they sell will fit
Front Door - 5.25"
Mid Door - 5.25"
Under dash - 4" oddball sized (crutchfield sells them)
Headrest - 3.5"
Rear floorboard - 5.25"
Rear Strut tower - 4" to 8" (just cut the spacer).
Note you'll need to use foam bezzels/qforms in the "free air" locations like the rear strut tower & under dash. Otherwise you'll get distortion as the speakers moves too much. Bass blockers/crossovers might also work.
