Speaker mounts in doors if no cd player?

I have an 87 Turbo II and I wanted to know if the mounting locations were there for the door woofers since it was optional and they just didn't put a grille on it.

yep i think you actually get two locations to choose from. the one above the door pull and there's another one by the bottom towards the front. That one you'll actaully need an 89+ door panel. best of luck......ps depending on model speaker you could actually fit up to a 6 1/2" speaker....i did..(alpine)

Lower front location...

I managed to get a set of oversized Pioneer Premier speakers to fit in the lower speaker locations of my '91. They are almost 1/2" bigger in diameter as compared to the Polk 6-1/2" that I used in the rear towers for fill.

The most critical thing I found was the rear mounting clearance due to the larger magnets found on aftermarket speakers, this forced me to use spacers to keep the magnets out back clear of the window and put the surround dangerously close to the door skins! In fact the drivers door skin buzzes against the speaker during heavy bass notes. I've got to work on this one...

Hey...maybe a sub to takeup the low bass and save the door speakers for mid-bass

Depending on what 87 you really have will determine the speaker location.

All FCs built before 6/87 will only have a spot above the arm rest.

All FCs built after 6/87 (technically 88 and later models) will have the lower front door 6" location, but on the 88 models the grill won't generally be there, and you will have to make your own or use the one the speaker came with or get a 89+ door panel.

I have an 88 base, do i still have speaker holes cut out in the doors, underneath the trim? Or would i need to cut metal?

I've been thinking about doing this with my 88, as well. Can anyone tell me how to get those door panels off in the first place? I haven't tried, but I don't want to tear anything up

The 90 door panels are incompatable with the 88 electronics. And you would have to cut the sheet metal in the door for the speaker to fit.

Unhappy

Thanks, my Diamond Audio 4" wouldn't fit in the dash, just a hair to wide So I decided instead of modifying the door to get the MB Quarts instead (even though they are being bought out by Rockford Fosgate) because they will fit. Just think you'll be able to get them at Best Buy for $100 bucks (not handmade anymore though).
