Sparks out the exhaust
Sparks out the exhaust
I woke up in the morning and started up my car (started great). Drove to the mall and got my hair cut. Came back to my car and turned the ignition and it turned over but dint fire up. it maid a slight grinding noise. Every time I tried over again the grinding got louder and louder. I let it sit there for four days and every night I would try to start it and it would just grind. the last night I had a friend push it up to 30mph and I let out the clutch in 1st gear. it started up but it was really jerky. My exhaust was dark blue and very heavy. I made it home ok and I rev’d up my engine a couple of time to about 6000rpm and my friend noticed sparks shooting out my exhaust. Then I looked under my hood and notice there was more smoking coming from the engine than there was coming from my exhaust. I have no clue what is wrong with my car. Can you help me?
maybe you've shot an apex seal (grinding noise, running jerky...)
pull out your leading spark plugs on both rotors, take a wrench plus a 24mm nut (i think 24 mm?) and turn your engine at the front pulley bolt... when you turn the pulley 3 times 360 degrees you have to hear 6 strong *POPS* comming out from the plug holes... 3 pops from every plug hole...
if you only hear 4 pops you have shot one apex seal, because one apex will seal 2 combustion chambers... if you only hear 3 pops you've shot at least 2 apex seals or possible all 3 at one rotor...
good luck

Well what year and model is it, has it had any problems in the past? It sounds like your starting problem is your starter. Just to let you know you should push/pull start it in 2nd or 3rd gear it will still start and it will be less jerky. The "sparks" where probably just afterburn, common on rotaries. It is also referred to as popping or shooting flames.
