Spark plugs obsolete!?

I went to Advance auto parts and Pep Boys today, and both of them no longer carry NGK BUR7EQP & BUR9EQP!!! I did some searching and found that these are obsolete, WTF!!! Has anyone else heard of this? What is a good alternative?

^^ I am pretty sure the "P" stands for platinum. Pretty strange.

i ordered and received the platinum version about 3 weeks ago, no problems.

either advance or o'reillys along with a set of wires, received 3 days later.

packaging was fresh, plugs brand new.

Yes, stands for platinum. Advance said they could order them, but Pep could not; they don't have them at any nearby locations or at the main warehouse. They are still posted on the NGK website, tho. Hmmm.

BTW: I copied and pasted the P. The plugs I was inquiring about at the stores were NOT the platinum ones.

Advance should be able to order in both the regular ones and platinums. They don't usually stock these at the stores themselves. They are both also listed under the vehicles under the spark plug category if you give them your make and model.

yeah, mine were ordered and IN next day. the wires took 2 days so i waited to pick them up together.

to the o.p. i don't think it is the plugs that are obsolete, it's the car.

unless you are near a rotary shop or dealer, i doubt that any parts supplier will keep 7 plugs on the shelf.

and since this is the most widely used replacement plug, other options would be even less available.

when i picked them up the o'reillys guy offered to 'set the gap' for me, and with tool in hand, opened one box looked at the plug and said...

"never mind, you are on your own"

my local pepboys said they could not get them, asked if they could maybe order, said could only get leading... never wasted time checking advance or oreillys, worrysome in my opinion

We removed all the rotaries plugs of the shelf because they do not sell(according to pepboys system)We do not have access to them anymore and we got rid of all the quantities on hand even at warehouse level,if you look them on on the store system they come up as a SOURCE ITEM,i was lucky enough and got 4 pack of leading and 4 packs of trailing for almost nothing, also got (2) 10 packs of B7EM(rotary specific plug)the ones that i run on my turbo bridgeport

I just got some 3 days ago from Advance Auto. They had to order them and got them the next morning. I didn't have any trouble at all.

Around here, Kragen (now O'Rilley) is the only one that stocks them. All the others have to special order.

I spent some time at Advance Thursday trying to figure this out. The problem is NGK changed the stock number. The plug number is still the same. Also, the box has changed:

WAS:
BUR7EQ: 3559
BUR9EQ: 5483

NOW:
BUR7EQ: 6917
BUR9EQ: 5777
