Spark Plugs

ok, i looked through the archives for a while and searched the forums but could not find my answer, so i'll ask everyone else. i started doing my tune up and replaced the plugs and wires in my 87 N/A yesterday, and to my surprise the guy who put my remanufactured engine in (i bought the car with the new engine in already from my brother) had put a leading spark plug into the no. 2 trailing hole and vice versa. this engine has 1300 km on it and i had no idea that the spark plugs were incorrect. before my car would sometimes start then choke and go to low revs and die so i figured the best bet was to replace the wires and plugs. now it is much stronger and won't die however when i first start it its revs bounce between 1500-2000 for about 2-3 minutes then sits at 750. my question is if any damage could occur because of the dumbass who put in the wrong plugs? also my bouncing rev question i'm sure involves the TPS as i've read before but any help on that would be appreciated. i'm kind of worried that me, someone who's never worked on an rx-7 before, was able to figure that out but a 'professional' mechanic managed to screw up something as simple as spark plugs :S. any help would be greatly appreciated, and i'll continue with my tune up today. thanks a lot

not uncommon for someone not used to working on a rotary to mis-install the plugs. It probably didn't do anything if the engine is still running. The only real worry would be if the plugs were too "warm" in the trailing spot and ignited the fuel before sparking. But using the stock temp plugs (even backwards) that would be very rare.

And yes the surging idle is more than likely the TPS needing adjusting.
