Dry ice works great. Just wait a bit for it to freeze the stuff then hammer and chisel away! Might need a little wd40/goof off or w/e to get the little residue off.

IMO: Gutted cars suck hardcore for daily. Especially if you have a loud exhaust. The weight gains, clean gutted race look arn't worth it, trust me. Headaches from the noise, plus girls wont want to ride in your car.

i know lol but it is too late now already this far might as well keep going lol. I was wondering if I keep the sound deading in the car could I just use the spray on bedliner and call it good and leave it at that might keep the noise down if I just leave it there.

I used a heat gun and a putty knife followed by a razor blade to remove the leftovers though I was placing new sound deadening material in its place so I wanted it as smooth as possible. And why are you removing the factory material in the first place.

honestly right now it is a just because thing. I wanted to gut it but I think I might keep the sounds deading down and just spray rattle can bedliner stuff over it

This is so true. My ex hated my car. You can hear all the gravel hit the underbelly, and it's just freakin loud. Girls hate that crap.

But who cares :p

lol see that is what I was thinking. if she don't like it she can find a ride elsewhere. I am not building this car for comfort or anything like that I am building it as a fun nimble car to drive and loud does not bother me use to driving gutted street rods anyway.

Yeah, I had that mindset when I started it. I just gutted everything over a weekend and put in double digit hours to get everything done. I didn't care what anyone thought of it after I did it. :p

I guess I grew up just a tiny bit since then. I don't regret doing it, but I sure as hell don't feel like driving it every day anymore. Still, it's fun as hell and makes the car that much more raw. Have fun.

By the way, I just tried that WD40 idea to clean up the bits of residue left over from tearing out the sound deadening. It works very well with minimal effort.

If you removed all of the sound deadening but then did the chassis stiffening foam, would it still be too loud for comfort? I would think that the foam would block out a lot of sound.

idk about the chassis foam but my firend stripped his 240 and then used spray on bedliner and it muffeled some of the noise from the outside and gave it a good clean durable finish

The foam wont make a difference because you only inject it into the side rails. Its the big flat areas that transfer most of the noise. The sound deadening tries to prevent this. Its a bit of work to remove all the sound deadening and then repaint everything. Plus the sound deadening doesnt weigh that much. Dont get me wrong, I did it because it looks cleaner!

I threw my interior back in. Semi-back to normal. I do alot more freeway driving now. Thats where it sucks the most. Wind noise & droning exhaust noise! Couldn't hold conversation with my girlfriend since she was the only person who rode in my car anyways. You'd have to yell. (LOL maybe... it was a good thing afterall...)

Highflow cat and 3 inch catback on my 240sx
Testpipe and corksport exhaust on my rx7

Yeah... its loud enough in my cars..

Pros:
Clean 'hardcore' gutted look (<-- Thats the only reason we do it.) Trust me. If you daily your car, you'll get tired of it after a while.

Cons:
Not that much weight loss
Noise!
Girls' panties stay on (eardrums still recovering)

Needed:
heatgun or dry ice
hammer & chisel
wd40 & razorblade/towels

Have fun!

having the sound deadening removed does not that make that huge of a difference in road noise, the only difference is i hear the fuel pump now, the entire under side of the car is also coated in sound deadening material.

gutting the interior and removing the sound deadening are 2 completely different things.

i kept the interior except for the huge 15lb rubber pad in the back under the carpet and the deadening.

i also have a infinity perfect 12" on 400+ watts back there and have no rattles at all
