1987 clutch problem

when i bought my RX7 - they guy told me it needed a new clutch and he ordered one, but didnt put it in - so it came with the car for me to install. so i went to install it today and the pressure plate has the wrong bolt pattern and wont bolt on to the flywheel. My car is N/A - is the turbo clutch/transmission different? i dont have a receipt and neither does he - so....i need to know if maybe its a turbo clutch. its made by some german company.

from what I understand the clutches are the same but if u look at part numbers they are different I think it may be a series issue.. u have an S4 the clutch may be an S5 clutch.

I just replaced the clutch on my NA 87 that I just bought, too.
I found out that there are not usually (at least) differentiating marks for the clutch when buying one, and that there are two clutch's available, a 22 spline and a 23 spline. The 23 spline is the turbo clutch. Their a little bigger. If the plate is the same size then it might just be the wrong clutch for the car.

Thats the difference I found.
Good luck!

BTW Did you spill oil everywhere out the end of the transmission like I did?
I'm trying to find out what kind of oil goes into the shifter housing because I spilled that, too..

N/A Clutches are also designed to be operated with the recessed friction surface.
TII's have the friction surface flush with the mounting.

the clutch i got is completely different, in size and bolt pattern - the clutchplate is smaller. typically gear oil is what goes into the transfercase, if i'm not mistaken. ididnt spill any - which can only mean that there wasnt much or any in there - which i pray didnt screw up my gears. - i bought this car from some kid - who apparently had no clue what he had or what to do with it.

From what I understand.... you are WRONG!

The Trubo clutch is bigger, as already mentioned, and the N/A clutch is smaller.
There is no difference between S5 and S4 clutch.... except for that.
