sorry about this post (twin scroll)
I know I've done searches before and in one place only they stated when you disconnect the twin scroll actuator arm the flapper will automaticly go to the open or closed posission however I cannot for the life of me find that thread. Do you guys know what posission it automaticly goes to??? Thanks.
The actuator has a spring in it that holds the flap open. When you apply manifold vacuum to the actuator it pulls the flap closed. If you disconnect the arm from the flap, the flap will be swinging loose in the manifold and will almost certainly be pushed closed by the exhaust gases. If you're not going to have the twin-scroll system functional (and in mildly modded engines you should), either remove the flap from the manifold, wire the flap open, or (easiest) leave the actuator in place.

When the whole shebang is connected up in stock configuration, the actuator rod is sucked fwd, towards the actuator canister. When you reach approx 2800rpm the vacuum in the canister is released and the spring pushes the rod aft....as in towards the rear of the car.
So the arm being held in the aft position means the passage inside is OPEN.
