How many bolts are connecting the transmission to the engine? i think that pulling it out without the transmission will be easier right now, if only because i'm not sure of when i'm going to be able to remove the exhaust (i was told you had to remove part of it to get the transmission)

the haynes manual doesn't say, and i couldn't find any threads on here that specified

we got the hoist downstairs, then got ready to pull it out, and i was like "wait, im not 100% sure ive got everything disconnected" :/ getting those bolts under the motor to the transmission is hard to reach, as well! :/

 

Theres mad threads about this swap..umm I just pulled mine out 3 weeks ago and if I recall, theres two bolts, one on the top left and the other on the top right of the tranny ( i had to use a really long extender) removed the exhaust from right under the exhaust manifold all the way thru and three bolts from under the tranny

i dont remember much because after i did this i got in an arguement with my girl and my mind went elsewhere! but just do some searches-

 

i tried some searches, but they were all non-descriptive for what i wanted...i guess i had the wrong query :/

Dude, pull the exhaust. You will need some PB blaster and maybe a propane torch to break the nuts loose, but it will be easier to do a clutch with the tranny out of the car

 

phoenix, yes, so true, apparently today i've had just a series of brain farts (first day of new job, and now i'm exhausted!). i think i've found them all, but the ones on bottom are going to be a pain to try to get to for removal :/ guess i'll just have to hop in the bay tomorrow and put some oomph on them

arghx, gonna need more than that...tried pulling the exhaust off earlier, and it somehow broke the weld that the bolt was connected to at the y-pipe, so now the entire bolt and nut spin together, and there's no way for me to grab the other side (there's nothing to grab). i know, that's probably very confusing, but it's going to take a lot of work to get the exhaust out (and i don't own a torch)

 

Propane is a joke. Almost completely worthless. It takes to long to get the nut hot enough and heats the stud as well which is something you want to avoid. Get an Oxy/Acey torch. They can be had for a few hundy now and are so so SO worth it. Should be mandatory for anyone working on a 20 year old car

Get rid of that old exhaust...you weren't really gonna hook that old junk back up again were you? Get that Racing Beat True Dual and be done with it. Pull the trans with the motor... it doesn't weigh more than 75 LBS. That way you don't screw your self when putting them back together(damage to throw-out bearing or shifter fork or anything else). Take all the stuff (exhaust shields, drive shaft ect.) out of the way... it won't save you time or effort to leave them in as it will be a pain in the $ss to mate the motor & trans in the car than on the floor.

i've done 3 engine removal/replacements, and have never pulled the tranny. and this is all in my yard under a tree...
the biggest reason is, I strip it down to short block in the engine bay, so that i can pick it up and pull it by myself, then pick it up and drop it back in, the wieght from short block to long blockplus tranny is over 2x as much. a block with just flywheel and front cover can be pick up and put in to, i dunno the trunk of my caddy ?

 

ramses, of course im going to replace my exaust...i've got the y-pipe and extension tubes now, just got to get the header, presilencer, and mufflers

well, i plan on pulling the tranny as well, just so i can check it out, i just thought i would have time to do it tonight if i didn't pully the tranny....then i forgot i had to drain the fluid, so i ruled out tonight
