Son of a.........

Well dammit.... I bought a compression tester today and checked out my engine... (freshly rebuilt from Atkins mind you, 1300 miles) rear rotor: 95 PSI, front rotor 20... DAMMIT!!! So I called atkins and they said to take the engine out and ship it to them where they will assess if it is their fault or not.... ITS NOT MY FAULT!!!! I did everthing i was supposed to and more. I've got a question too: If they sent me a faulty engine, and I paid to have it put in, shouldn't they have to pay to have it put in again?? I mean, its not my problem they sent me a POS. Anyways... time to go start the tear-down.

I read some of the posts on here and followed their instructions:
Stay under 3K rpm for the first 500, then increase 1K rpm for each 100 miles after that.

Forget about what you've read here. How did Atkins reccomend you break in the engine, because ultimately if you varied even slightly from what they've said they're gonna say you broke it in wrong. If it turns out that they sent you a defective engine then I'd have to agree with you that they owe you what you spent to install and remove the bad engine. You better believe they're not gonna make it easy for you though. I've heard mixed reviews on Atkins but have no first hand experience with them to give a personal opinion.

Good luck

While I don't really know you, I will offer to help you put it in. The bulk of the work shouldn't really take any longer than a day. I'm no expert or anything. In fact, I haven't ever installed a rotary, but done several conventional "boinger" engines. LMK if you want me to come up.

Atkins didn't send any rpm breakin rules... they just sent me a maintainence schedule - oil change and such at 3,000 miles, 6,000 miles etc....

There's stuff about break in on their web site. It has a whole list of rpms and time periods. Their break- in is like 1500 miles or so.

The site also says labor is not covered.

If you paid for the labor to have it put in if it was thier fault the engine went bad then they should have to reimburse you to have it installed again. All depends on if they care for your business again and fear your voice to others. I do know people remember and tell more people about a bad dealing with a company alot more than when you have had a good dealing.

I can tell you right now you will not be compensated for install costs unless atkins themselves installed the engine. As wrong as it is, that is just the world of automotive labor.
