sometimes have trouble starting wen the car is WARM

hi,

i have a 89 gtu-s. alot of times after i drive my car and park it. about an hour later i try to start the car agen when its still warm, the rpm goes up and down, and the exhaust sounds like its choking. if i dont step on the gas pedal to rev the engine, the car is gonna die and it would have to start it again.

but recently if i dont step on the gas in time and the car dies. i cant start the car back up no more. i get that sound where the engine cranks and it sounds as if the battery is dead. but i know for a fact that the battery is fine. one time i even had to push start the car. other times i had to use my remote start to try and start the car with the key in the ignition and keep stepping on the gas pedal.

does anyone know whats wrong? it only happens wen the car is warm. im able to start the car everytime its cold or when its hot. and when the car do start, it drives with no problems and pulls strong.

another minor problem, sometimes around 6 or 7 in the morning when the weather is extremely cold, my RPM meter would stay at zero until my car is fully warmed up after about 3-5 minutes of driving. its not a big issue but id like to know why it does that.

thanks in advance

The hot start problem is just the typical flooding that troubles many rx7 owners. Older engines with weaker compression suffer from this, and it can also be caused by a leaky injector. To deal with it you can wire a fuel cut switch, to turn the fuel pump on and off. To start my car hot, i have to turn the switch off, let it crank for a second or two, then turn it on.

As for the Tachometer, there is a ground wire connected to the top of the clutch slave cylinder that is supposed to help the gauges- Its got a little black box on it- you might want to check on it, i've had gauge problems related to that little guy.
